Principal Investigator dr. Anggraeini Puspitasari Kokko
”As a radiation biologist with a medical background, I am committed to advancing research on the biological effects of particle irradiation, particularly proton therapy, in cancer treatment. My primary focus is to explore how radiation interacts with both cancerous and healthy tissues, with the goal of optimizing therapeutic outcomes. Through collaborative investigations conducted both in vitro and in vivo, I strive to contribute to the development of more precise and effective radiation therapies, ultimately improving patient care.”
Research focus
My research centers on understanding the complex biological effects of radiation, particularly in the realms of cancer therapy and space exploration. Particle irradiation, such as proton therapy and FLASH irradiation, represents a promising frontier in cancer treatment. However, optimizing these therapies requires a deep understanding of how radiation impacts both cancerous and healthy tissues.
In addition to its medical applications, radiation exposure poses a significant risk to astronauts on long-duration space missions. My work aims to expand our knowledge of radiation’s effects on biological systems through both in vitro and in vivo studies. This foundational research is essential for developing effective countermeasures to protect space travelers and refining radiation-based therapies to enhance patient outcomes.
