Flexible access to cutting-edge research facilities
HollandPTC offers companies and external partners the opportunity to use our state-of-the-art R&D facilities for proton research and radiation effects testing.
Access to research facilities
HollandPTC is an independent center for proton therapy, scientific research, and education. We operate an isochronous cyclotron-based system (ProBeam, Varian, a Siemens Healthineers company). Beyond our clinical role, we offer a dedicated R&D beamline supporting advanced research in physics, radiobiology, and space applications. A facility description can be found here: Pre-clinical and clinical facilities – HollandPTC.
Why choose HollandPTC for your project?
HollandPTC opens its cutting-edge research facilities to companies and external partners, providing unique opportunities for innovation and product development. Typical applications include radiation hardness testing for aerospace, semiconductor, and medical device industries.
By partnering with us, your company gains:
- Access to unique infrastructure: State-of-the-art equipment and facilities rarely available outside specialized research centers.
- Flexible and tailored solutions: Our independent R&D beamline and labs can be adapted to your project needs.
- Expert guidance: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team experienced in radiation physics and radiobiology.

How we work
We organize our activities on a quarterly basis. About a month before a new quarter starts, we send a mailing to our network with an application form. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation with your scheduled dates before the start of the next quarter. If you are interested in joining our network, please let us know.
Typically, our R&D beamline slots are available five days a week for approximately four hours in the evening, usually between 7:30 PM and 11:30 PM.
Need access at short notice?
We pride ourselves on flexibility and strive to accommodate all project needs—whether planned in advance or arranged last minute. Contact us anytime, and we will check availability for your project.
Standard technical aspects for radiation hardness testing
The HollandPTC R&D beamline delivers proton pencil beams from 70 to 250 MeV, with Gaussian beam profiles and adjustable fluxes from 5×10⁶ p/s (lowest energy) to 2×1012 p/s (highest energy).
For larger irradiation areas
- 4×4 cm² and 10×10 cm² fields available at 50, 70, 120, and 200 MeV, fluxes from 1.5×10⁴ to 1×10⁹ p/(cm2 s).
- 20×20 cm² field available on request, with additional dosimetry required.
Custom setups or other specifications can be accommodated upon request, though preparation time may vary.
These capabilities support a wide range of radiation effects testing, including evaluation of single-event effects and total ionizing dose in electronics for aerospace, medical, and physics applications. HollandPTC also offers expert staff support and close collaborations with TU Delft, Erasmus MC, and LUMC, providing a strong research environment for both academic and industrial users.
