R&D support employee – beamline operator
HollandPTC is looking for a beamline operator to assist with experiments on the R&D proton beamline. A unique opportunity to gain work experience in proton research!
The research team at HollandPTC conducts and supports preclinical research, ranging from radiobiology and physics experiments to radiation hardness testing of electronics for the aerospace industry. These tests are performed for both academic research groups and commercial clients, who test electronics for satellite communication and other applications. The focus is on studying Single-Event Effects (SEEs) as well as cumulative dose effects.
Do you have an affinity for precision, technology, and customer-oriented work? Do you enjoy contributing to the smooth and professional execution of measurement evenings for international clients? Then we would like to meet you.
Your role
As a beamline operator, you will support researchers and clients during beamline experiments, mainly for radiation hardness testing. Your tasks and responsibilities include:
- Setting up, modifying, and dismantling standardized experimental setups
- Discussing, monitoring and adapting the measurement plan for the evening
- Performing irradiations alone together with the researchers or clients
- Supervising radiation safety during experiments
- Actively communicating throughout the experiment (English is the working language)
- Flexibly adapting to changes in the measurement plan
- Solving technical or practical issues, also under time pressure
Experiments are mainly conducted in the evening. Working hours are typically between 6 pm and midnight. Irradiation blocks last approximately 4 hours, excluding setup and dismantling time. The schedule is determined shortly in advance, which is why this position requires flexibility.
Training will be provided by shadowing an experienced beamline operator during multiple experiments. Once you are sufficiently trained, you will gradually start conducting experiments independently.
For students with an affinity and interest in proton research, this is a unique opportunity to gain work experience. This position can also be easily combined with a study.
